Fixing Termite Damage During Renovation

Location: Kyoto | Date: October 2025 | Contractor: Tsuji-Kenzai

How It Started

We started renovating this old empty house with plans to add a bathroom and replace the tatami floors with wood. Everything was going smoothly—until we pulled up the floorboards and found a surprise.

1. Floor Comes Off

Since there was no bathroom inside the house, we removed the entire floor to get ready for plumbing and new flooring.

2. Surprise: Termite Trouble

Under the floor, we found some of the wood had been eaten away by termites. It’s the kind of damage you usually can’t see until you open things up.

3. Time for Treatment

We treated all the wood on the first floor. In tight spots like around the toilet, we drilled small holes and injected the treatment inside. The whole job took about 90 minutes.

4. What’s Next

Now that the termites are gone, we’ll move ahead with building the bathroom, laying the floor, and making this house feel like home again. More updates coming soon!
