Typhoon-Damaged Roof and Wall Repair in Sakyo, Kyoto
Typhoon-Damaged Roof and Wall Repair in Sakyo, Kyoto
Project Overview
This case involved emergency roof and exterior wall repairs after a typhoon severely damaged a traditional tiled roof in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. The project included roof reconstruction with Galvalume steel, plaster crack repairs, exterior painting, and a bonus thermal window upgrade.
Repair Steps
1. Roof Tile Collapse After Typhoon

Half the second-floor tiled roof had collapsed, exposing the home to further damage.
2. Emergency Temporary Repairs

We installed tarps to prevent water intrusion while planning the full reconstruction.
3. Demolition of Old Tile Roof

The entire roof was carefully dismantled down to the wooden base.
4. Structural Reinforcement

We reinforced weakened roof structures to meet modern standards.
5. Waterproof Sheet Installation

A waterproof membrane was added to prevent leaks and future water damage.
6. Galvalume Standing Seam Roof

The new roof uses lightweight, rust-resistant Galvalume panels with a standing seam finish.
7. Cracks on Eaves and Exterior Walls

Typhoon vibrations had caused visible cracks on the eaves and exterior walls.
8. Crack Repair with Plaster

Our team repaired the cracks using traditional Japanese plastering techniques.
9. Repainting and Exterior Finish

The finished result was a fully restored and weatherproofed exterior.
10. Bonus: Thermal Window Upgrade

We also replaced an old window with a new energy-efficient thermal glass model.
